Patient Transport Service

Booking non-urgent ambulances for transport to hospital appointments:

From the 1st July 2016 West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) will provide a non-emergency patient transport service to those patients deemed eligible (patients with medical and/or mobility conditions that prevents them from using other forms of transport) who are attending for treatment at NHS funded treatment centres.

Patients must contact the Ambulance Service direct and will be guided througha few simple questions to determine whether you are eligible for ambulance transport and if so, your mobility needs, ensuring the appropriate type of resource is booked.  Department of Health guidlines state that a clinical need for treatment does not imply a medical need for transport.

If you do not have access to a car, public transport should always be the first option available to you.  If you cannot afford public transport, your treatment centre may have a supported travel costs scheme.  Please ask for details at your treatment centre.  If you are a regular user of public transport services, or you are able to travel independently, this should be your first port of call.

To contact the Patient Transport Service please ring:

0345 425 0050 (local call rate).
